If you’re new to Snapchat, you’ll see that it’s a different kind of app compared to its peers, such as Facebook or Twitter. You can follow whomever you want, and there is no public metric showing how popular your page is, eliminating a lot of the pressure to be better than the next guy. You’ll need to come up with a username, use the Snapchat username search to find people you like, and go crazy with filters, which is basically a must.
One of the best features on Snapchat is the cross-platform interaction that you can use to save your snap photos and share them on Instagram or Facebook. Filters are Snapchat’s signature feature, and before you know it, you’ll have your favorite that you’ll share across all the social networks you frequent.
Also, you’ll quickly realize that it’s not just Kylie Jenner and DJ Khaled who have found success on Snapchat. A lot of popular brands and small businesses alike use the app to connect to their loyal fan base, and you’ll find plenty of interaction by Taco Bell, Starbucks, Coca-Cola and many others. But before you make a list of all the people or brands you want to follow, you’ll first have to figure out Snapchat’s search engine. Snapchat might be popular, but its search feature definitely needs some improving. As we wait for Snapchat’s tech guys and gals to make our lives easier, we’d like to share a few tricks on how to find the people you’d like to follow. Enter Snapchat’s directories, and a super-easy method to search for celebrities!
Maximum Pop! Directory
Maximum Pop Snapchat directory is based in the UK, and it is mostly used to find famous people, both from the UK and from around the world, including celebrities, popular YouTubers, and successful bloggers. You cannot add yourself or anyone who does not fit into one of the directory categories, but it’s great if you want to check out what some of the UK-based celebrities on Snapchat are up to. If you’re a fan of Calvin Harris, you’ll be pleased to know he often posts shirtless photos of himself on Snapchat, while Cara Delevingne’s goofy face distortions and messing around with her friends will put a smile on your face in an instant.
College & University Directory
When you think about it, it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise that higher education institutions are on Snapchat. Although most often associated with its goofy filters and celebrities in their natural habitats, Snapchat knows quite well that most of its users are millennials and Generation Z, so it’s imperative to offer them what they need. This directory was put in place so that universities and colleges could connect with perspective students, and for the users to check out the schools they are interested in attending.
Snapchat User Directory
In the sea of Snapchat categories, you can search for lots of different people, including professionals, by using the Snapchat user directory. Created by Ken Cook, a web and content marketing expert, this directory appeals to those searching for people working in certain industries instead of looking up friends or favorite baseball teams. Most professions can be found under the user directory, while developers have their own hub, called the DevSnap.
“Official” Means Famous
If you’re not interested in the vibe around MIT’s campus or how Coca-Cola cracked Snapchat, and just want to search for some good ol’ famous people content, forget about the directories and turn your attention to “Official” stories. “Official” is Snapchat lingo for verified, and only people who are super popular get verified on Snapchat. So, what you need to do is go to your “Stories” page, and in the search bar enter the word “official”. You’ll get a list of the “official” accounts you don’t already follow, and you can browse through all the famous people livin’ it up on Snapchat. Obviously, if you know the username of the person you’re looking for, your search will be much easier or if you know their emoji, it will be much more fun than your typical Snapchat username lookup. You can enter the emoji in the search bar and see all celebrities that use it. Hopefully, pretty soon we won’t need all these hacks to find people on Snapchat, but for now sticking to our tricks is one fine idea.
